A shooting in a Northeast Oklahoma community leaves one man dead and an officer on administrative leave. Just before nine last night officers from the Miami Police Department were dispatched to a home at 312 C Street Southeast in Miami. Upon arriving at the scene, officers found two victims who said they had been assaulted by a man using a walking cane. During their investigation, another officer went to the suspect's apartment. There he found the suspect armed with a knife. The officer says he told the suspect repeatedly to drop the knife. But the suspect then pulled the knife back in what the officer says was a threatening manner. The officer fired one round striking the suspect. The suspect did throw the knife at the officer, but missed. The officer then fired two additional shots to end the threat. The suspect was transported to Miami Baptist Hospital where he was pronounced dead 30 minutes later. The Ottawa County District Attorney's office and the OSBI are currently investigating the incident. The officer involved has been placed on administrative leave during the investigation.
