Reported by: Bonney Bowman Tuesday, Jul 29, 2008 @06:08pm CDT One of three men accused in the murder of a Southeast Kansas man was sentenced today.
Edward Gordon pleaded guilty to second degree murder in the death of Jamey Richardson in January 2007.
Both Gordon and Richardson's fiancé Jennifer Edwards took the stand.
Edwards spoke of her loss, and of the three children who won't get to know their dad.
Gordon broke down while apologizing to Richardson's family.
The judge sentenced him to 10 years in jail.
That sentence was part of a plea deal in which Gordon cooperated with prosecutors in exchange for a lesser sentence.
Gordon has already served a year and a half of that time.
he will serve 8 and a half years in jail with the possibility of parole after 7 years.
Edwards says she feels Gordon is as responsible for her fiancé’s death as Samuel Becker, the man who pulled the trigger.
She says the only reason Jamey went to the Baxter Springs home that night was because he thought he was helping Gordon, his friend.
Edwards says she and her sons take it one day at a time.
She says she relies on her family to make it through.
The last man to be sentenced in this case is Aaron Graham.
He recently pleaded guilty to first degree felony murder.
Graham will be sentenced on September 23rd.
