Reported by: Jim Jackson Monday, Jan 5, 2009 @06:06pm CST A former county attorney is sentenced to federal prison. 48 year old Michael Goodrich of Baxter Springs, Kansas was sentenced to 12 months and a day in federal prison. Goodrich pleaded guilty in June of last year to one count of extortion. While serving as Cherokee County Attorney, Goodrich admitted he unlawfully extorted the owner and employees of the Sensations Gentlemen's Club in Galena. As a result he received money and favorable treatment from the owner and employees. Goodrich will be allowed to voluntarily surrender to begin serving his term when the Bureau of Prisons directs him to report. A co-defendant in the case, Timothy Schooley pleaded guilty to one count of blackmail he was sentenced to one year of probation, including two months of home confinement and a $100,000 fine. |
