Reported by: Dustin Lattimer Friday, Apr 3, 2009 @09:41pm CDT In the city of Galena, Kansas, the position of 'mayor' doesn't pay, but two men on the ballot don't care. They have plans for their city and they want you to show up to the polls on Tuesday and vote. Action 12's Dustin Lattimer shows us who's running for Galena mayor and what their plans are if elected.
One town, one sign. That's all that Galena Mayor, Dale Oglesby, says he needs this time around. Tuesday marks the 4th time Dale's name will appear on the ballot as mayor and despite the lack of a paycheck for the position, Dale says he'll keep coming back. "The pay is zero so it's a volunteer thing and so you don't do it for the money you definitely do it for the love of the town," says Mayor Oglesby. Also on the ballot for mayor is David Sizemore. He's a native of Galena and has high expectations for Tuesday's election. "I expect to win," says Sizemore. In order to do that, both men are making the rounds in Galena, sharing their plans and idea's with those willing to listen. "It's time to bring Galena back where Galena belongs, bring it back to the people and let the people get more involved with their government and beautify the place. This is a Beautiful little town really, it's just been neglected," says Sizemore. "My primary push is economic development. We've got two problems that we've got to solve. Number one is of course our tax base and that's done through economic development. The number two problem is the subsidence issues and I think those are both very challenging especially in the environment we live in," says Mayor Oglesby. Although their plans for Galena differ, David and Dale share in the goal of bringing change to their city. "I know the city and I know the problems we have and I know the potential solutions that we have," says Mayor Oglesby. "We're going to change Galena, all they need to do is give us a chance to do it," says Sizemore. |
