Reported by: Jessica Daley Friday, Apr 10, 2009 @07:14pm CDT Prescription drugs can have a hefty price tag and in these tough times, Americans are looking for cheaper medications.
Some are turning to Internet sites or spam emails that promise low rates, but the FBI and national pharmacy groups say that's dangerous.
Some online prescription drugs may be counterfeit, expired, mislabeled, or contaminated.
A local pharmacist says the convenience and affordability of online drugs isn't worth the risk.
"Medication bought online doesn't have a pedigree," said Pharmacist Brian Caswell at Wolkar Drug in Baxter Springs, Kan. "That means, there is no system for us to go back and find out where the medicine came from." Pharmacists say you should always purchase your medicine through a reputable company in the U.S. The FDA has a system to track all medicine within the country. |
