Rain barrels and composting bins were on display today at the Joplin Public Works Center.

The barrels catch rainwater to use for watering plants and other outdoor projects.  Composting bins allow you to turn common wastes such as table scraps and vegetable skins and peeling into soil high in organic nutrients.

Habitat for Humanity's "Re-Store" at 7th and Black Cat (north 1/4 mile) in Joplin sells the rain barrels for 40 dollars. Today, the city was giving away the compost bins... free for the asking.
