Reported by: Dustin Lattimer Thursday, Sep 3, 2009 @06:10pm CDT A local university is reporting it's first cast of the H1N1 virus.
The confirmed case of H1N1 is from a student who attends Pittsburg State University. University spokesman, Ron Womble, says the male student walked into the campus health center on the 26th of August, complaining of flu like symptoms. The student was sent home for treatment and to recover. Today, Kansas health officials did confirm that the student was infected with the H1N1 virus. So far, this is the first confirmed case out of PSU, but university officials expect it won't be the last. "I think it would be unrealistic to think that we would escape with just one case, so we are treating everyone at this point who comes to the student health center or calls with flu like symptoms, we're treating them all as if they have the new virus," says Womble. University officials say any student or faculty member experiencing flu like symptoms needs to see a doctor and stay away from the campus. |
