Saturday, Oct 17, 2009 @11:14pm CDT It's meant to protect your child's life, but if used improperly, a car seat could put your child's life in danger.
The Pittsburg Rotary Club partnered with area law enforcement to hold a child seat safety check up Saturday.
Professionals checked car seat installation to make sure the seat would keep its occupant safe in the event of a crash.
Rotary officials say 1,000 kids under the age of 14 die every year in car accidents, and faulty or improperly installed car seats add greatly to a child's risk of injury.
"Today it's just safety," said Chris Moore with the Pittsburg Police Department. "We've already done probably 15 or 20 cars this morning, and we've taken over eight car seats that were either involved in accidents that were no good, or had recalls. We gave those people new car seats to make their children safe. " The Pittsburg Police Department and the Crawford County Sheriff's Department took part in the check up. |
