Monday, Nov 2, 2009 @12:43pm CST TREECE, KS - President Obama signs a new bill that will allow residents in Treece, Kansas to be bought out and relocate outside of the lead contaminated town. The Environmental Protection Agency must now move forward on the buyout using existing funds in their accounts. According to U.S. Senator Sam Brownback the buyout would be similar to the buy out in nearby Picher,Oklahoma. The EPA would buy residents homes allowing them to move out of the city.. It will announce when the funding will be awarded in the next few weeks. |
