Newton County, Kansas- An arrest has been made in connection to a fatal shooting in Newton County.

25-year-old Jacob Shamblin is arrested on first degree manslaughter charges. Shamblin was wanted in connection to the death of 19-year-old Steven Cox.

Newton County Sheriff Ken Copeland says Cox was shot October 18th while poaching for deer with Shamblin and Shane Schmelzer; all three are from Granby. 

The men tell investigators they got separated from Cox and when they heard a rustle in the bushes they thought it was a deer, Shamblin fired shooting Cox in the face killing him.

Shamblin is being held in the Newton County Jail on a $10,000 bond.
