  • H1N1 Flu Shots
    Reported by: Gretchen Bolander

    Thursday, Nov 5, 2009 @05:09pm CST

Extra doses of the H1N1 flu vaccine mean a local health department is looking for more patients. That, after nearby clinics have had to close early due to the demand. Workers at the Newton County Health Department have more of the vaccine than they need.

The agency just got another shipment of almost 1,000 doses this week. And workers say demand among county residents seems to be trending down ... giving them the opportunity to immunize Missouri residents from other counties. They say that keeping neighbors healthy helps keep Newton County healthy. Patti Yates is the public health nursing supervisor at the Newton County Health Department. She said, "We're just concerned with getting the vaccine in people, in those priority groups. We're still, just have to follow federal guidelines which the Center for Diease Control has set those. But we have some vaccine and we want to get it in people."

Newton County is offering the H1N1 flu vaccine at weekly clinics every Tuesday and Thursday from 9:00 A.M. To 7:00 P.M. Appointments are required. You can contact the Newton County Health Department at (417) 451- 3743. They're located at 812 West Harmony in Neosho.
