Reported by: Caitlin McArdle Thursday, Nov 5, 2009 @05:58pm CST The U.S. Food and Drug Administration announced yesterday a new Safe Use Initiative. The Initiative is aimed to curb preventable harm from prescription drug abuse or unintentional drug misuse. The new effort will allow the FDA to work with healthcare professionals to identify drugs that are linked to preventable harm. One project included in the FDA's proposal includes evaluating the information about medication that is available to consumers. The FDA also announced new guidelines for liquid medications that include a dosage delivery device, such as a dosing cup or spoon, in hopes of reducing accidental overdoses.
