Joplin, MO—Family members in Joplin and Lamar with loved ones that live at Fort Hood are expressing relief to hear that their family members are fine.

Sgt. Joseph Miller with the first Calvary Division, Bravo Company stationed out of Ft. Hood is currently deployed in Iraq, his aunt lives here in Joplin and his sister lives in Lamar. They say that Miller’s wife and child live at Fort Hood but thankfully not on base this afternoon during the shooting.

“For the first time since he’s been deployed I’m glad he is in Iraq and he wasn’t at Fort Hood,” Miller’s aunt Carolyn Dermott said.

Dermott went on to say that she never thought soldiers would be in harms way at their own home base.
