  • Killing Spree at Fort Hood Military Base
    Reported by: Brian Dorman

    Thursday, Nov 5, 2009 @11:05pm CST

Temple, TX- It is the deadliest attack on an American military base with at least 12 killed and 31 injured in a mass shooting on the base of Fort Hood.

Allegedly a Major in the military shot and killed 12 soldiers and injured 31 around Thursday afternoon. First reports indicated that the shooter had been killed along with the emergency responder who reportedly shot and inured him. A spokesperson on the base of Ft. Hood says miscommunication at a local hospital lead them to believe that both had died, but in fact both survived.

The alleged shooter is identified as Major Niadal Malik Hasan a M.D. who served as a psychiatrist at a mental facility on base.

Hasan is listed in stable condition as of Thursday night and according to the spokesperson on base said to recover from his injuries. Hasan was shot several times after the shooting spree at the soldier readiness facility where soldiers about to deploy go through.

It’s suspected that Hasan used handguns along with a semi-automatic rifle during the shooting. Of the 12 dead all but two are said to be American soldiers, two others civilians. Among the 31 injured their injuries are said to very from minor to serious.

Three other American soldiers were taken into custody thought to be suspects, it has later been determined that the gunman acted alone in the killing spree; a motive is not yet available.

Fort Hood is situated between Austin and Dallas and is the largest active duty armored post in the U.S.
