Miami, OK-- "Most pharmacists are trusting people, they want to make sure people get the medications they need," Bill Osborn, President of Osborn Drugs, said. Tougher state restrictions for medications containing pseudoephederine are a welcome sight for Osborn, who has to keep those medications under lock and key.
"Before it was very unclear about what kind of I.D. you had to have so they would get multiple state I.D.'s, they wouldn't have a birthday on them, so they would go get multiple I.D.'s with no birthday on them, and now the idea is that they will tie all these I.D.'s together," Osborn said.
The new rules went into effect this month, and now require anyone who wishes to purchase medications containing the ingredient to verify their birth date with their photo I.D. The new law has authorities hoping it will prevent dealers from using fake or multiple I.D.'s to get their ingredients.
"I think it's a great start, the problem is the people that cook meth and stuff like that are so creative that at some point and time someone is the country is going to figure out an ingredient so that's what we're faced with," Commerce Police Chief Bob Baine said.
