  • 4 Women on the Route
A Character in Pixar’s Cars is based off of the tow truck found in Galena Kansas right behind the old route 66 gas station. Other inspirations for the movie were also found in Galena such as Maters driving backwards and parts of the town itself.

    A little More History ...

In an old KanOtex Service Station at 119 North Main Street, on Galena's northern end of Route 66, "4 Women on the Route" has restored this historic treasure into a snack and Route 66 Gift Shop. The gas station was first built during Route 66' heydays and later a service bay was added. Once Galena's mining days were over, as well as those of the historic highway, the station was abandoned. Today; however, it has been fully restored closely to its original design and features shining KanOtex gas pumps in front.

But, one of the main features that "4 Women on the Route" displays is "Tow Tater," a 1951 International boom truck that was the inspiration for "Tow Mater" in the movie Cars. A long-time victim of neglect, rust covers Tater's body, its seats are torn and frayed,  and its odometer reads more than 99,000 miles, but who knows how many times that's rolled over. Amazingly, Tater still runs and is used in parades.

SO ... stop by and say hello ... we would love to meet you!
