Reported by: Lindsey McCollough When my Dashaund, Reese, passes away I was devastated. She was my world! Ryan helped me bury her and he comforted me the best he could, but there is no way to replace the love that you get from a pet. After just a short time without her we knew that what I needed was a new baby to love. We had Harlie and we had come to really love the Shih-Tzu breed so at that point we decided that we wanted another Shih-Tzu. We looked for quite a while and finally came across Gizmo at the Joplin Humane Society. Gizmo was a 4 year old black and white Shih-Tzu with a horrible under-bite and bowed front legs. It was literally, love at first site. When they brought him in the room for us to meet him Ryan looked at me and said, “Honey, I hope you brought the check book.” The story that we got on Giz was that he didn’t like to be loved on, didn’t like to be held, didn’t like to sleep on the bed, and didn’t like getting on the furniture. We were told that his front legs were bowed because when he was a puppy kids that lived in the house where he lived would pick him up by his front paws. We couldn't leave him, he was going to come home with us.When he first came home he was pretty quiet and a bit shy but once he warmed up, we saw a whole different dog than the one that had been described to us. Gizmo loves to be loved on and he loves to play and sleep on the bed and everything else that they told us he didn’t like to do. He loves to cuddle with me no matter what we are doing and he sleeps on my pillow every night. Gizmo is my bubby, he was just what I needed, an angel! ![]() |
