NEOSHO, MO.-- Neosho City Council members hosted a meeting for school officials, local law enforcement officers, and state representatives. Authorities discussed their experiences with synthetic drugs and how it is hurting the area. State officials explained the difficulties of outlawing the marijuana like products, with manufactures changing the chemical compounds every time they are banned.

"Getting all of these groups together, we're all empowered to help with public safety. We're all part of the solution and getting us in one room to talk about the problem is the 1st step to overcoming the synthetic problem we have and getting it out of the state of Missouri," states Richard Davidson, Mayor of Neosho.

12 people have been hospitalized this year from overdosing on the synthetic drug in Neosho alone. Officials say most of the people using the product are under the age of 18.
