ARMA, KS.--- The Kansas Department of Transportation hosted an open house to discuss the upgrade of U.S. 69. The plan is to turn the 2 lane expressway into a 4 lane, between Fort Scott and Arma. KDOT representatives were on hand to answer questions about the project. Engineers say the expansion will be a benefit to the area.

"It limits access, which improves safety of the highway and it brings a lot of economic benefits to the community. A lot of dollars get spent here during construction," states James Dietzel, Road Design Leader.

KDOT officials say they should be halfway through the design process by 2014, and begin construction in 2017.
