MISSOURI.--- State Representative Lyle Rowland is proposing a bill that would change minimum term requirements for the school year. Currently, Missouri requires a 5 day school term to be at least 174 days long. The new bill suggests focusing on hours of pupil attendance instead of the number of days.
Rowland says switching to a 10,073 hour requirement, will give school districts more flexibility in compiling their calendars. The state's department of elementary and secondary education has not yet made a decision regarding the proposal.
