Cherokee Co. Commission Agrees to Lawsuit Settlement

COLUMBUS -- Cherokee county commissioners unanimously voted to accept a settlement offer from Penn National Gaming at a special meeting Friday. Commissioner Richard Hilderbrand says the agreement requires Penn National to pay $4.75 million in cash to the county, along with deeding 200 acres south of Galena to the county. In 2007, Penn National Gaming won a contract to build a casino in the southeast corner of Cherokee county. After the compnay withdrew from the contract, the county filed a $56 million lawsuit. Hilderbrand says the final paperwork will be drawn up this weekend, and he expects commissioners to sign it next Monday.
