JOPLIN, MO.--- Charlie Brown is a volunteer with the "Stars of Hope" project. He is cutting 3,000 wooden stars that will be placed through out damaged areas of the East Coast. They will be painted and elementary students will write words of hope on them.

The stars will then be distributed in the neighborhoods that received the most damage from Hurricane Sandy. Organizers say it will help lift spirits.

"After the stars have dried, we take them to the impacted areas where the destruction is and put them out along the side of the streets and brighten the area," says Charlie Brown, Stars of Hope Volunteer.

Organizers from "Stars of Hope" held a fundraiser at McAlister's Deli Monday evening. They were able to raise $225, which will go toward the east coast trip.
