JOPLIN, MO-- A local university could make some big changes on campus if they get the green light from a potential state bond project. Missouri lawmakers are discussing the possibility of a statewide bond to benefit higher education and other projects. Missouri Southern leaders say a new science building tops their list of needs, but add that the price tag may be prohibitive.
MSSU Vice President of Business Affairs Rob Yust said, "We would love to have tens of millions of dollars. But I'm sure other institutions around the state would have the same requests. And I'm not sure where our request falls in the hierarchy of the rest of the state institutions."
While state leaders are discussing whether to pursue a bond this year, some argue it would be better to wait a year or two until the economy improves.
