"We had enough money to give everybody almost everything they wanted," states Jim Woestman. L.E.S.T. Chairman. Getting funding for police cars was one of the more costly requests.
The Jasper Police Department was awarded more than $23,000 to help purchase a new police car. The Sarcoxie Police Department will receive nearly $24,000 for a used car, dash camera, tasers, and radar.
The group also tabled the request from the Missouri Southern Police Department for patrol cars and uniforms until police department submits their budget.
"Universities are funded through the state and the state's been a little lacking as of the last several years," states Ken Kennedy, University Police Chief.
With tight state budget, money from the board would be a huge help to the department.
"If we could get a couple vehicles, it would be a very big issue for us and as far as officer safety issues and responding to calls," says Kennedy.
The board will meet again on February 26th to discuss MSSU's request. L.E.S.T. Grant funds total about $181,000 for the year.
