JOPLIN, MO.--- Members from local county farm bureaus donated food and money to the Joplin Ronald McDonald House today. The act is one way they are celebrating "Thank A Farmer Week." The farmers donated nearly 4 tables worth of fresh food, as well as frozen food, more than $200, and a $100 gift card.

The Ronald McDonald House serves as a "home-away-from-home" for families whose children receive treatment at local hospitals. The house director says this is the largest food donation they receive throughout the year.

"Our house has been fortunate that for almost 15 years, we have never had a food budget. All of our food comes from donations like what the Farm Bureau has brought in today," says Tara Horinek, Executive Director, Ronald McDonald House.

Farmers from Jasper and Newton counties began donating food in 1999. The effort has since grown to 9 participating counties.
