JOPLIN -- The Empire District Electric Company has submitted a request to the Missouri Public Service Commission that, if approved, would increase the average residential customer's bill an average of $5.60 per month. The increase would allow an annual increase in base revenues of about $27.5 million. After fuel adjustment reductions, it would mean a 4.7% rate hike for Empire customers. If approved by the commission, the new rates would take effect April 1.
