According to the American cancer society over 178,000 new cases of breast cancer will be diagnosed just this year.
It's a journey for many women and an uphill battle.
In our Freeman Buddy Check 16, we meet a Kansas woman who has remained strong in her fight against multiple battles with cancer.
It's something no 37 year old woman can imagine already having cancer three times. At such a young age Maryanne Foxx has already dealt with cervical cancer and breast cancer twice. Maryanne got through her initial breast cancer diagnosis, but two years later she's learned the disease has come back. Although Maryanne says, like every other human being, she has her difficult moments it hasn't stopped her from taking her personal experience and using it to help others Maryanne is a promise coordinator for Komen, she spends her days speaking to men and women about the disease and sharing her story on this night, it was in Pittsburg.
And although she doesn't think she is many who've met her, call her an inspiration. Robey, Maryanne's husband says he's inspired by her strength and has committed himself to staying by her side. Maryanne is a fighter and she fights not only for herself, but for everyone else who's been affected by this illness and she says she wouldn't trade her experience for anything. And a tattooed phoenix on her back represents that new found appreciation. After her second diagnosis, Maryanne has decided to undergo a double mastectomy. She will have that surgery next month and then she and her doctors will decide her next steps in treatment.
