buddycheck2008-03-21-1206117552.jpgA program at Freeman Health System is helping cancer patients "look good and feel better". It's designed to help women, and the benefits are obvious on the smiles of those who leave the class. In our Freeman Buddy Check 16 report, KSN’S Tiffany Alaniz takes us to "look good, feel better" at the Freeman Cancer Institute. "Well I feel renewed almost; this was a lot of fun. It was nice to sit down and try out new things that I normally didn't use before" Brenda Gordon is talking about her experience at the look good, feel better class. She attended this course sponsored by the American Cancer society and hosted by Freeman Health System. It's a free national program especially for women undergoing cancer treatment to help them cope with some of the appearance related side effects. "It makes a complete difference, like I said, it gives you the confidence especially the things they are going through they just need something to cheer them up and make them feel confident in themselves and this does," said Gordon. For Brenda and the others here, it's a nice break from the daily stresses of their battle. "I think it's great for people to be able to come in and sit down and relax and feel they can just be themselves." The course covers make up application, cleansing, and the importance of sanitizing makeup applicators. The women here exchange stories, laughter, and even some makeup hints. "I think the main thing is it's very positive and people really enjoy themselves. They walk in, they're a little nervous when they first start but then they let themselves enjoy and have fun." Kathrine Dukes has volunteered her time teaching this course for three years. She has seen firsthand how it can enhance lives. "It makes a complete difference like I said, it gives you the confidence especially the things they are going through they just need something to cheer them up and make them feel confident in themselves and this does." "One of the best things about this course is that over 40 cosmetics companies donate their products applying their makeup" The energy in the room is positive and the women here look beautiful inside and out. "It’s excellent. I highly recommend it as you can hear the laughter in the background; it gives you an opportunity to ask questions. get information on some good resources i think, everyone had a great time-I’d definitely recommend it" A course designed for fun, looking good and feeling better. The course is free and offered every other month. The next course will be held at the freeman cancer institute on Monday May 12th at 9:30am. It is free if you are interested.
