JOPLIN, MO - Lafayette House leaders say they see a higher volume of clients near the holidays. They say it could be because people have more time off work, they're stuck in the house, or stress over money and visiting family.

If tensions at home are running high they want to remind women to seek help before a situation escalates.

As more details unfold about a weekend homicide in Joplin that stemmed from a domestic dispute, lafayette house administrators and city leaders want to encourage women in need to take advantage of community resources.

"We are here, we are a resource, you can come in for shelter and we do have a confidential, very secure shelter for women to stay in," says Louise Secker, Lafayette House Director Of Development. "Also, if you just want to get some information call our hotline, visit our website," Secker adds.

If you or someone you know is the victim of domestic violence you can call the lafayette house... 24 hours a day at (417) 782 1772 or visit their website: http://www.lafayettehouse.org/
