PITTSBURG, KS.--- Pittsburg State University officials were informed this week of a legislative decision that prevents out of state specialty license plates in Missouri. Although the Missouri House approved an amendment allowing only Missouri schools to be featured on state license plates in May, Pitt State was the only exception to this rule in Kansas. Since last year, the Pitt State Alumni Association has been pushing for specialized Missouri plates that would sport the PSU gorilla logo for it's 14,000 alumnus in the state. It's something alumni relations staff say is a sad ending to months of hard work.
"We're disappointed as a university, and obviously our alums are disappointed that they're not going to be able to show their pride in that way and also support their own state," says Johnna Schremmers, PSU Director of Alumni Relation.
More than 200 people had already turned in their applications and fees for these new specialty plates. Each was notified this week and they have the option to get a refund or donate the fees to the university.
