breaking news
JOPLIN, MO.--- "I texted my dad, who lives up in Chicago, bragging about how low our prices are," says Dominic Willis, Driver.
"They're great. It's the lowest they've been in a long time," says Tom Hawkins, Driver.
A Triple A report released this week says today's prices marked more than 20 consecutive days of decreasing national gas prices.
"When I left Texas yesterday, gas prices were $2.74 a gallon," says Tracy Merrell, Macadoodles Store Manager.
Missouri beat out Texas on Monday though by being one of the first states to drop gas prices below $3.00. It became the first time since July any state average has fallen below that threshold.
"I've got about a 25 to 35 minute commute on a daily basis one way, and it definitely affects us. It's going to save about 15 bucks per tank probably," says James Campbell, Driver.
Around Joplin, prices are ranging from $2.89 to $2.99 per gallon and continue to fall.
"My light came on, seeing I was getting low. So I pulled in and I noticed it went down to $2.91. Which I was pretty stoked about it being $2.94 just the other day," says Hawkins.
Managers at Macadoodles are not too surprised at the decrease, they say gas does tend to be cheaper in the winter
"Coming into winter, they change the blend of the gas, so price drops when they change it from the summer blend to the winter blend . So prices have fallen quite a bit there," says Merrell.
Even though gas prices are falling, we are not completely back to normal. The Triple A report says we are still around a nickel more expensive than where we were this time last year.
