Officials say the blaze broke out around a 6:15 p.m. and by the time crews arrived, flames were shooting out of the roof.
Firefighters say the second story of the home was destroyed and the first floor suffered significant fire, smoke, and water damage.
Five adults and three children lived at the residence, but no one was hurt. The family has been displaced and the Red Cross has stepped in to help.
Police had to close the intersection of Wall and 14th for about 2 hours while crews fought the flames.
The cause of the fire was electrical.
