JOPLIN, MO.--- The City of Joplin and C.A.R.T chairman Jane Cage received the Rick Rescorla National Award of resilience. This is the first year for the award, which recognizes outstanding response to catastrophic incidents.
It's named in honor of Rick Rescorla, who died while trying to lead his coworkers to safety during the 9-11 attacks. Cage says Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napalitano, personally contacted her about the award.
"It really is very humbling because even though I get to be the face of this, I'm certainly not the person who did all the work," states Jane Cage, C.A.R.T. Chairman.
Cage says she hopes the award will serve as hope to communities devastated by Hurricane Sandy that they can come back from a major disaster.
