PITTSBURG, KS.--- Bart Arnett has a vested interest in his current project.
"It's 2 miles from my house, so it's in my community," states Bart Arnett, Crossland Construction Superintendent.
He's the superintendent for Crossland Construction's building project at Via Christi Hospital In Pittsburg.
"The hard part of this will be tying into the hospital. So, we make a series of tie ins so we can accommodate and keep the hospital up and going," says Arnett.
Via Christi Public Information Director Michael Hayslip says the construction may cause some inconveniences, but it will be worth it in the end.
"I really think that the sense of anticipation when you have the architectural renderings on display and people see that end product, and they can feel that we're moving closer and closer. I think it does ease some of that frustration," says Micahel Hayslip, Via Christi Public Information Director.
Currently, Arnett's crew is working on moving a water line that runs directly under the main entrance to Via Christi, closing it temporarily. It's all part of the construction of a new surgical center.

"We were able to open up a temporary entrance extremely close by. As a matter of fact, it's just south of our cancer center doors," says Hayslip.
Hayslip says much of the hospital had remained the same since the 1970's, when it was first built, and the current construction will not only take them into the future technologically but also, be a great recruiting tool.
"It is a great recruiting tool, especially when we're able to recruit those physicians who are local, who are from Southeast Kansas, Southwest Missouri, Northeast Oklahoma, and kind of bring them home," says Hayslip.
Making it a special project for the men and women on Arnett's crew.
"I take a great deal of pride working in my community and for people who take their job so seriously," says Arnett.
The community entrance will open back up next week. Construction of the surgical center is expected to be completed in 2014.
