PITTSBURG, KS.--- "You're never fully dressed without a smile," states Mckenna Shaw, Aspiring Performer, Age 10.
Smiling comes easy when you hear 10 year old Mckenna Shaw sing.
"I feel pretty amazing that I can do what I can do," states Shaw.
She's been taking vocal lessons since she was 7.
"I would like to go to Broadway," says Shaw.
When she heard a seasoned performer was coming to Pittsburg High School, she jumped at the chance to get his feedback.
"Not many people my age get to be critiqued by a professional actor. It's a pretty once in a life time experience," says Shaw.
Seth golay is a Pittsburg High alumnus and has been performing in musicals for 13 years.
"I spent a lot of years banging my head against the wall trying to find tactics to survive in musical theater, so I'm just happy to come and tell them what I know and what I've experienced," states Seth Golay, Professional Actor.
"I liked that he didn't treat me like a kid. He told me what I needed to do and what I did well," says Shaw.
Pittsburg High School theater teacher, Susan Lauchman, was thrilled to see a prior student pass on his expertise.
"I know that when you bring someone different, someone new, with different perspectives, some new connections can happen," states Susan Laughman, PHS Teacher.
That's true for Mckenna, who experimented with different vocal techniques and improved her on stage presence.
"He told me things that no one has told me before," says Shaw.
Lauchman says she invited Golay to show students just how far they can go in performing arts. She hopes this experience has given students the extra push to pursue careers in the theater.
