MISSOURI--- Democratic Senator Jolie Justus proposed a measure to raise the age limit for young people to re-enter the foster care system. Under current law, only those under the age of 18 who are released from the system, can reenter by petitioning the court.

The new measure would raise the age limit from 18 to 21, making it possible for young adults to get back in the foster care system and have access to resources like housing.

"I think for southwest Missouri, this is a great piece of legislation. Since we opened our pre-adult transitional housing program several years ago, we call it PATH, we have certainly been made aware of the problem," says Vicky Mieseler, MS Ozarks Center, VP of Clinical SRVCS.

Locally, the PATH program, operated through Freeman's Ozarks Center, provides kids aging out of the foster care system with affordable housing.
