JOPLIN, MO.--- With blood drives canceled because of the snow, the Community Blood Center of the Ozarks in Joplin expects there to be a shortage. The clinic tries to bring in 200 units a day. Yesterday, they had just 2 donations and none today.

Each session takes around 45 minutes, including filling out paperwork and a 15 minute recovery period. Negative types are needed most. Center workers say giving blood is not only good for the heart, but also helps the community.

"It's just a good feeling. A lot of folks tell us afterwards they feel better after they give. Plus, I'm sure they feel good doing something for their fellow human," said Karen Ringler, Collection Supervisor.

If you would like to donate, you must be weigh 110 pounds and be in good health.
