When you make a purchase, you can put your receipt in that container. At the end of the month, the number of receipts will be counted and the amount of purchases totaled. Using those figures, a special formula will calculate how much the sponsored group gets. Organizers say this makes it easier for residents to get involved in the community.
"You get so many organizations that need funding for whatever it might be. It's nice to be able to be in a position where we can give them something to help them out," said Dallas Smith, 5 Corners Representative.
This month, Fort Scott Community College Athletics is the one getting the cash. Along with money, the group selected is advertised on the convenience store's digital sign off of Highway 69.
