Firefighters responded to the call at Black Cat road and Junge Boulevard at 3:30 this morning. When they arrived, the Mosque of the Joplin Islamic Society was completely engulfed in flames. It has since been declared a total loss. This is the 2nd fire at the Islamic Temple this summer. In July, an arsonist attempted to burn down the building, but only caused minor roof damage.
"It goes against our conscious in the FBI, and in our government that someone would do this to a house of worship, which I think everyone in the room would consider sacred," states Mike Case, Federal Bureau of Investigation.
Sheriff Dunn says after the arson attempt in July, they did increase deputy patrol of the area. If you have any information, you are asked to call the Tips Hotline at 417-781-8477.
