Newton County Sheriff's Vehicle Involved in Fatal Accident

NEWTON COUNTY, MO---The accident happened on Gateway Drive, two miles South of Joplin around 8:40 P.M. 33 year old Cory Sheppard, of Neosho, was killed when his motorcycle was struck by a patrol vehicle. Newton County Sheriff Ken Copeland says the deputy was responding to an emergency call when the accident took place. He says the deputy was not involved in a pursuit at the time of the accident. The deputy has been placed on administrative leave pending the outcome of an investigation by the Missouri Highway Patrol.
