PITTSBURG -- About 50 kids turned out for the 6th annual "Block Kids Contest" Saturday at Pittsburg State University. The kids were challenged to complete various construction projects using Legos, rocks, aluminum foil and string. Organizers say not only do the kids get a taste of a possible future, it also gives them new ideas to use on projects of their own.

"It's pretty exciting to see the kids really enjoying it," says PSU instructor Dennis Audo. It's really nice to see the creativity the young people possess."

Saturday's participants were first through sixth graders, and the activities were sponsored by the National Association of women in Construction and the PSU School of Construction.
