JOPLIN, MO.--- Over 1 million hours have been logged by over 162,000 people taking the initiative to help the Joplin community rebuild from the tornado. Meeting with tornado victims is a crucial part of the efforts. City leaders say the help is not only labor, but also building lasting relationships.

"It's really that connection and the interaction with the homeowner or the resident that was effected by the tornado. Just to let them know that somebody from outside Joplin cares about them enough to come and help them out is huge," said Sam Anselm, Assistant City Manager.

The volunteers have been from faith based groups, nonprofits and private individuals. They have represented every state in the country and several countries around the world.
