“We’ve always offered the work of talented regional artists in Spiva’s gift shop,” said director Jo Mueller, “and it has become a great source of original items for art lovers, art givers, collectors, and anyone seeking something beautiful, different or unusual. The quality of the work—whether it’s Cyndee Harvey’s gemstone jewelry or Connie Knudtson’s hand-dyed silk scarves—keeps people coming back.”
Located on the 2nd floor in Spiva’s new Rental Gallery, the Great Holiday Gift Bazaar opens Saturday, November 24, and will remain open during gallery hours through Sunday, January 6, 2008. Featuring original artwork, jewelry, and crafts by local artists, the Holiday Bazaar is the month-long event that will make it easy to find something fun, unique—even eclectic—for that special someone this holiday season.
Shoppers can expect to find a selection of high quality, unique items created by regional potters, jewelers, weavers, painters and photographers. Among those with inventory in the shop are weaver Margaret Roach Wheeler, photographer and greeting card designer Mary Ann Soerries, fiber artist Kelly Moreland, potters Richard Reed and Daria Claiborne, and painters Jesse McCormick and Theresa Rankin.
“Spiva is a great place to shop—no crowds; hassle-free parking; and cash, check, MasterCard and Visa accepted. And when you find the perfect gift, you’ll be supporting both a local artist and Spiva programs," Mueller continues. “That’s a win-win for everyone.”
The Holiday Bazaar will be open November 24 – January 6 during gallery hours: Tuesday through Saturday, 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., and Sunday, 1:00 to 5:00. Spiva will be closed for the holidays November 22-23; and December 24-25.
The Center, which is funded through memberships, contributions and grants, is open to the public. Admission to the galleries is by voluntary contribution, with $1 suggested for children; $2 for adults.
