GOOD AIR AND BAD AIR

On an average most adults breathe roughly 35 pounds of air per day, or around 20,000 breaths, and children breathe almost twice that amount, as they are smaller and still developing their respiratory systems. More air enters the body and the bloodstream than any other substance. Breathing tobacco smoke is the number one problem among small children. As stated above they're still developing their respiratory systems. Young children do not use tobacco. So how do they get it? From being around someone who is smoking. Give young children a chance to develop their respiratory system the correct way. Don't smoke around them.

Air is one of the most essential elements in the home, yet it's often overlooked because you can't see it. At this time of year your home is closed up due to the cold weather outside. Not much fresh air gets into the house. We have to take the indoor air and make it healthy for us to live in. There are several ways we can do this. Listed below are some of them.

HEPA Filters

Hepa filters remove small particles such as dust, pollen, and mold spores, tobacco smoke, smog, pet dander, and some bacteria particles that carry viruses. These filters are capable of removing 90% of those particles. The most common HEPA filters come in furnace filters, air purifiers, humidifiers, dehumidifiers, vacuum cleaners, and shop-vacs. Use these type of filters in your home where needed instead of regular filters and you can breath better and be more healthy.

Furnace Filters

3M company makes three types of furnace filters that are very good for your health.

The Purple Ultra Filtrete ---- This filter will filter out pollen, mold spores, dust mites, smoke, pet dander, household dust, smog, and some bacteria that carry viruses.
The Blue Filtrete ---- This filter will filter out pollen, mold spores, dust mites, smoke, pet dander, household dust, and smog.
The Red Filtrete ---- This filter will filter out pollen, mold spores, dust mites, and household dust.

Endust Filters ----- This filter will filter out pet dander, household dust, pollen, and mold spores.

There are other furnace filters on the market that can be used. Read carefully on the filter to see if it will filter out the things that will make you sick.
If you use the non- replaceable furnace filter that you wash out, be sure you get it washed out thoroughly because is you leave dust particles in it they will turn to mold.
The common ordinary furnace filter (cheap one) takes out mostly house- dust because it is a 10-micron filter. Most particles that float in the air that harm you are a 3 or 4 micron or less. Your good one like the 3M filter is a 1-micron or less.

Air Purifiers

Air purifiers can also help give you good air. Make sure you get the one that has a Hepa filter in it. These purifiers, depending on the unit you buy, can change the air in the room 4 to 6 times an hour. Read the print on the outside of the box to see what the purifier will take out of the air. Choose the one that is best for you.

Air Purifiers are sold by square foot or room size. Make sure you buy one that is large enough to handle the room you are putting it in. If you cannot sleep at night an air purifier will help.
