JOPLIN, MO.--- Joplin Police Officers say they responded to several crashes near the mall and other big shopping centers this afternoon. To better handle the heavy traffic volume JPD officers got help from 8 off duty officers from the department. They also closed a left turn lane near the mall. Police say traffic was most congested late last night and early this morning. Officers recommend watching your speed and paying attention to road signs while you're out shopping.

"There have been a couple of accidents, there have been some that have been on Range Line and some that have been on the parking lot of the mall, we are responding to a lot more on Range Line instead of at the mall," states Lacey Baxter, JPD Traffic Officer.

Officers also caution pedestrians to pay attention to their surroundings and avoid walking and texting, especially in the mall and shopping center parking lots.
