CARTHAGE, MO.--- Workers are replacing dozens of doors at the Jasper County Jail . The project includes new motors for remote controlled operation as well as wiring, fire alarms, and lighting. Deputies say the construction will improve security for jailers, inmates, and the community at large.

"Those doors are opening and closing a 100 times a day, 365 days a year. So, you don't have to do a lot of math to figure out how quickly that stuff wears out," said Sheriff Randee Kaiser, Jasper County.

Work on the $800,000 project will wrap up in about 5 months. The sheriff adds there are other repairs still on the waiting list, but he'll evaluate what comes next after the current project is done.
