JOPLIN -- Residents were signing out new pets at the Golden Paw Pet Resort "Big Love" event Saturday. The goal was to help adopt out bigger breeds of dogs and cats. The shelter currently has around 50 animals looking for new homes. Resort volunteers say it can be difficult finding homes for larger animals, but they really do make great pets.
"We definitely do work hard to get them to good homes and it's a joy to see it happen," says Golden Paw adoption director April Berry.
Shelter workers say there is always an increase in strays during the winter and summer months.
