"Wokky-doo-wee-doo"
"Ah hoowa, hoowa, hoowa"
"Hubba hubba honey dew"
"Lop bop a loom op a bop bam boom"
"Oop shoop ee doopee doopee doopee"

These aren't words from a 2007 pop song - these are some of the lyrics from the upcoming musical at Joplin Little Theatre, "The Taffetas". Presenting 45 songs from the 1950's will be Lisa Green, Sonya Harris, Karen Eckhardt and Autumn Osborne, portraying a sister quartet from Muncie, Indiana, making their singing debut on national television, hoping Ed Sullivan is watching.
Director Cecie Fritz has assembled a capable and experienced staff to bring the show together: Angela Lowe, choreographer; Paula Giltner, scenic artist; Jessie & Sam Claussen, light design; Valerie Davis, dressmaker; Judy Johnson, props; Chet Fritz & Todd Loudis, set builders; Jim Goff, stage manager; Gary Roney & J.J. Winfrey, sound design; Cleo Copeland, light board operator. Cecie Fritz, Chet Fritz and Jerry Holcomb will be the back-up band for the show.
So, don your poodle skirts, DAs and white bucks, go back with us to a simpler time, and bring up memories of radio shows like Fibber McGee & Molly and The Jack Benny Show; movies - On the Waterfront and Rebel Without A Cause; comic strips - Bringing Up Father and Priscilla's Pop; early T V - Arthur Godfrey and Ozzie & Harriet; fads - coonskin caps, bubble gum cigars and hula hoops; singing groups - The Chordettes and The McGuire Sisters; songs such as Sh-Boom, Mr. Sandman, Johnny Angel, Little Darlin', and Where The Boys Are.
Bring your children and grandchildren for an evening of nostalgia, music and laughter, remembering when Disneyland and the first McDonald's opened, Mad Magazine and Mr. Potato Head debuted and the hottest car of 1957 was the Edsel!!
Performance dates are Sep. 26-30 with a 7:30 curtain Wednesday through Saturday and a 2:30 Sunday matinee. Ticket prices: $15.00 adults, $13.00 seniors and students, $5.00 ages 12 and under. Reservations are recommended, 417 623-3638
