Last year Kansas governor Sam Brownback vetoed about $700,000 of funding for the Kansas Arts Commission.

That meant that facilities like the Baxter Springs Heritage Center and Museum weren't able to seek money for special projects and presentations.

This year, that funding has been restored, but federal matching funds won't return until 2014.

Museum president Phyllis Abbott  says the funding is an important part of keeping local history alive.

The funding will now be handled under under he new Creative Arts Industries Commission, which will combine the Kansas Arts Commission and the Kansas Film Commission inside the Department of Commerce.
