PITTSBURG, KS.--- For the past 29 years, volunteers at St. John Lutheran Church have been serving up Thanksgiving meals. More than 900 people visited the church between 11 and 2 to enjoy a hot meal with friends, family, and neighbors. Organizers say it takes 30 turkeys, 11 large hams, 250 pounds of potatoes, and countless gallons of punch to serve a crowd this big. The goal of today's event was to make sure everyone had a hearty holiday meal.

"Especially now with the economy as it is, it's very important because the jobless rate is very high and a lot of people are looking for work and we want them to have a wonderful meal today," states Carolyn Lamborn, Meal Organizer.

"The food is good and I know probably a third of the people in this room and I get to see them when otherwise I probably wouldn't," states Jerry Waltrip, Meal Attendee.

Pittsburg High School seniors also helped out by preparing meals to deliver to those who couldn't make it to today's event.
